A Muslim woman has won her court case over fashion store chain Abercrombie & Fitch after it came to light that the fashion retailer denied her a job because of she wears a headscarf.
Samantha Elauf wore her hijab to her interview, however she did not state her religion and Abercrombie & Fitch later denied her the job as her appearance violated their “Look Policy”.
"I was a teenager who loved fashion and was eager to work for Abercrombie & Fitch," said Ms Elauf in a statement after the court released its decision.
She added: "Observance of my faith should not have prevented me from getting a job. I am glad that I stood up for my rights.”
The court ruled that Abercrombie dishonoured the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which bans discrimination based on religious beliefs and practices.
Abercrombie & Fitch has since reversed its policy on headscarves.
