Police were called to a 99p Stores branch in Wrexham after its closing down sale sparked a row between customers and staff.
A half price sale at the closing store attracted dozens of shoppers, some of whom had queued for over two hours, but staff were required to put the prices back to 99p when a new lease agreement was reached that morning and many customers became angry and refused to leave.
“After last minute successful negotiation with the landlord we were able to save the store and the 30 jobs within in store," said Tony Brown, chief operating officer. "The instruction to the stores to terminate the sale was not intended to be with immediate effect. We have rectified this internally.”
