South Korean electronics firm Samsung has said that quarterly operating profit is likely to be about 5.9 trillion won (£3.65 billion), ahead of expectations but still 30% down on the year before.
The relatively upbeat financial update follows a slump over the previous two quarters, led by a slowdown in mobile sales.
However, with the latest version of the company’s flagship smartphone the Galaxy S6 launching on Friday, sales are widely expected to climb.
As well as smartphones and other electrical goods, the company also makes computer chips, which saw higher demand in the period.
