Japanese electronic goods firm Sony has said that its operating profit is likely to more than quadruple as sales of gadgets such as camera sensors and cost-cutting measures across the business take effect.

Despite the fact that operating profit will be lower than analysts had forecast, the rise will mean that reforms in the company’s loss-making mobile phone business are beginning to bear fruit.

The rise to 320 billion yen (£2 billion) from 68.5 billion yen the previous year will be the biggest annual operating profit in seven years.
