John Lewis saw its sales exceed £100m for the second successive week as it rose 2.1% year on year.

Chris Hooper, Head of Retail Change at John Lewis, commented: "If the launch of the Christmas television advert was a sure sign that we are into the Christmas trading period, the fact was fully reinforced by our reaching the £100m barrier for the first time this year, the earliest week we have delivered this. The colder temperatures further set the mood and the outcome was an excellent 10.7% uplift year on year."

Waitrose week 16 sales figures were also on the up at £119.18m, was an increase of 6.6% which compared to 2012-13.
