WH Smith has announced that it has opened its first store at Sydney airport T1 international terminal.
The company’s long term plan is to operate six convenience stores which will include a 450 square metre landside departures shop and three airside shops.
Shops within T1 have evolved from traditional ‘books and news’ and will feature ‘store-in-store’ ideas like Lego and Lonely Planet.
Glyn Williams, the general manager at Sydney airport, said: “This is a real evolution from the traditional ‘books and news’ operations and introduces a reinvigorated range of must-have travel product essentials that make every journey easier in a convenient one-stop shop.”
Also commenting, Paul Yardley, WH Smith Australia chief executive, said: “We are delighted to successfully open the first four stores and to receive such positive feedback from our customers and passengers. We have worked hard to create an enjoyable shopping experience featuring global brands, as well a high standard of design, to match those used by luxury brands in airports around the world.”
The other shops will be open for trade by September 2016.
