Tesco has confirmed that it will be removing volume-led promotions on unhealthy food and drink products in October as planned.

The news comes despite the Government’s announcement that restrictions on multibuy deals on foods high in fat, salt or sugar are to be delayed for a year.

The supermarket said it was making the move in response to customer feedback which revealed that 86% want to eat more healthily and 77% want help from supermarkets in doing so.

Last week, Tesco launched Better Baskets, a campaign that is designed to help customers shop a healthier and more sustainable basket, without compromising on price.

The supermarket is aiming to boost sales of healthy products to 65% as a proportion of total sales by 2025.
