It has been reported that the finance director of Tesco is to step down as early as next week.
Laurie McIlwee is thought to have clashed with Philip Clarke over the group’s strategy and failed to warn investors ahead of a sharp drop in profits in its central European division.

Tesco, which is due to report another drop in profits next week, has declined to comment on the reports.
