It has been reported that the owner of Wickes, Travis Perkins, is to create 4,000 jobs over the next four years in the UK; kicking off with a presence at retail recruitment event Retail Appointment Live over the past two days.

The investment will see 400 stores opening and will be supported by distribution facilities in places such as Coventry, Northampton, Warrington, Leeds, Tilbury and Cardiff.

Some of the jobs include 200 branch managers and assistant managers, jobs for IT experts and 170 apprenticeships for the younger generation.

Chief executive of Travis Perkins, John Carter, said “Travis Perkins’ ability to create 4,000 new jobs reflects confidence in our businesses, the markets we operate in and the UK economy as whole.

“This confidence is supported by a number of actions taken by the Government over the past two years, including the new Help to Buy ISA announced yesterday, that are continuing to support construction activity and improvements in consumer confidence. We are making significant investments to improve our customer proposition and in our supply chain to offer superior ranges, availability and value propositions.”

Currently Travis Perkins has nearly 2,000 stores in the UK and had revenues last year of £5.6 billion.
