Unemployment in the UK fell to a seven-year low in the three months to August, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics, the lowest rate since 2008.

Meanwhile, the number of people in work rose by 140,000, bringing the employment rate to 73.6% - the highest rate since records began in 1971. Wages, including bonuses, were up 3% from a year earlier – slightly down on expectations but this is likely to rise before the second quarter of 2016.
