According to a new study by Key Note, it has been estimated that women’s plus-size clothing sales have risen by 21.4% over the last 5 years as the number of women considered to be overweight or obese rises.

The Health Survey for the UK discovered that over half the female population (58.4%) are now size 14 to 16. This has encouraged mainstream retailers such as H&M and New Look to extend their fashion lines to include larger sizes, in response to the growth in demand.

The trend continues, with fashion chain Mango being the most recent mainstream brand to announce its move into the plus-size market.
